Low water level? The Kiel crane comes to the rescue.

20. August 2026

With the keel crane, we are responding to the current situation and providing a solution that allows affected boats to remain in the harbor and continue to be used despite the low water level.

The prolonged drought has caused water levels in Swiss lakes to drop to record lows. This puts some boat owners in a difficult situation, as their boats are sitting with their keels on the bottom at their berths. While some are forced to end their sailing season early and haul their boats out of the water, the keel crane can provide a solution.

The keel can be raised by up to 40 cm at the dock using the keel crane, allowing the boat to remain in the water despite the low water level. The keel can only be lowered once outside the harbor, where there is sufficient water depth again.

On the Esse 750, Esse 850, and Esse 890, the keel crane is portable and can be easily installed. The keel is raised manually. The keel crane can therefore be easily purchased as an optional accessory.

On the Esse 330, the keel is raised hydraulically due to its greater weight. Installing the keel lift on these models is somewhat more complex and requires more time.
