Spring check for your Esse

09. March 2026

The first warm days also mark the start of the new sailing season. Before you launch your boat again, it's worth doing a quick check so that you can start spring relaxed. With a few simple checks, you can ensure that your boat is optimally prepared and that you can enjoy the first days of sailing without any worries.

1. Cleaning the boat

Start the season with a thorough cleaning. Use a mild detergent and a soft brush to clean the deck. Carefully remove dirt particles, especially in areas where there is a risk of slipping.

It is also advisable to clean the deck regularly during the season – after each trip, remove sand, dirt, or, depending on the water, salt residues if possible. Regular cleaning contributes significantly to the longevity of your boat.

2. Checking and maintaining fittings

Check all fittings such as cleats, sheet clamps, and eye bolts for tightness and functionality. Pay particular attention to corrosion or wear.

Also carefully check the fastening points and fittings on the mast and replace any damaged parts in good time. If necessary, clean the fittings with a mild cleaning agent and a soft cloth. Small areas of corrosion can be carefully treated with fine sandpaper.

3. Check rollers and blocks

Check all rollers and blocks to ensure they move freely. Sticky or blocked rollers not only make it difficult to operate the sails, but also cause unnecessary wear on the rigging.

Clean the blocks if necessary and lightly lubricate moving parts so that they run smoothly again.

4. Check the rope and replace it if necessary

Check the rope for signs of wear such as frayed areas, cracks, or hardening. Areas subject to particular stress—such as pulleys or clamps—should be checked carefully.

Worn or damaged rope should be replaced in good time. In the case of slight wear, it may be helpful to reposition the lines so that the less stressed side bears the main load in future.

5. Check the mooring

The mooring should also be checked at the start of the season. Check your mooring lines for wear and tear and replace them if necessary. We would be happy to assist you in selecting the right mooring lines for your Esse.
