Victory at the Silverrudder with the Esse 850

Esseboats warmly congratulates Patrik Heinrichs on his first place in the Keelboat Small category at this year’s Silverrudder Challenge.

The Silverrudder Challenge is an annual single-handed sailing regatta which starts and finishes in Svendborg and takes participants once round the Danish island of Funen. With a minimum distance of 134 nautical miles, it is one of the most demanding single-handed regattas in Europe. The rules are deliberately kept simple: there are no mandatory navigation marks between the start and finish – the choice of route is entirely up to the sailors.

This year’s edition began on Friday, 18 September 2026. For Patrik Heinrichs, this was already his eleventh time competing in the Silverrudder. Challenging wind conditions prevailed throughout the course, with an average of 4 to 6 Beaufort and occasional gusty squalls reaching up to 7 Beaufort. In the north, there was also a 30-nautical-mile reach with waves up to 1.5 metres high.

The final hours of the race were particularly gruelling. Heinrichs describes how, over the last 18 hours, he was increasingly pushed to his physical limits. This makes his result all the more impressive: sailing the Esse 850, he secured first place in the Keelboat Small category.
